Wonderful to get back isn't it?? I love La Morra but sadly, the last time I was there, it was a very quick trip in the pouring rain, in the dark for an 8:30pm dinner date. Still, all considered, it was a warm evening, the food and wine at Brandini were spectacular and it cleared enough to see all the lights below for the drive back to Alba.
At least one of us has pictures and great ones at that! Thanks Paul!

Hi Paul,

Good to see the vineyard workers getting their due - they are massively important in my view and tend to get overlooked in the rush to acclaim winemakers. If you've got 20 hectares that you want to farm organically or biodynamically, as well as all your winery work and administration, just try doing it on your own, without the vineyard guys...I'll raise a glass of Marchesi di Gresy to them this weekend, or better yet, some of our own Barolo...

Hi Bob,

That's a tough one. Essentially it is experience which allows you to determine whether a wine will be good or not so good. Because wines change over time you need an understanding of how they will develop. I hope that helps, let me know if you want any further info.

Hi Vicki,

I saw something about that in some literature but I never saw anything like it on my recent trip. I wondered if it was a translation problem at the time but maybe it really exists.

Anyway I would strongly recommend that you go to the region around the town of Alba. Asti was nice but Alba is better. It even has the Ferro Rocher factory in it!

It would be a bit of a stretch to do as a day trip from Liguria or Como for that matter but it would be worth staying a night at one of the small hill top towns like La Morra, Serralunga d'Alba or Barolo. Barolo and and La Morra have these great wine shops where you can taste a few wines of the region for a small fee. La Morra has this place called the cantina communale where you can taste the wine of some of the local producers (small fee applies).

Go for lunch at the Vinoteca Centro Storico in Serralunga d'Alba. Great food and the local wine makers eat lunch there as well.

Let me know if you would like some more info.

Regards and thank you for your kind words.

This morning when I was searching through the Piedmont Region trying to plan a day of wine tasting and sight seeing I came across an amazing video of a winery with "underground cathedrals" . It looked like a most interesting place to visit and I thought it was in Ast but I can not find it again. Was it here somewhere on your website? If not do you know what I am talking about? Could you recommend a day trip starting from Como or Santa Margharita Liguri for wine novices in search of great scenery, maybe a castle or two and a Medieval City if there is one almost on the way. We could end in Santa Margharita or Como. Thanks for you help. Your website is great and very helpful. Vicki
